M2 CP -Photomontage: Image Hijack [Part 1] - Gun Rights, Legal Immigration, Drug Epidemic

                 1. The famous painting, AMERICAN GOTHIC a 1930 painting by Grant Wood, is 
                      the image I will be altering to portray our Right to Bear Arms. Gun rights are 
                      intended to  ensure Americans freedom and protection against tyranny.


                                       
                                                                                                                                                                                          
                   

                  2. The Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom in America. I will be altering this
                     image by adding fencing around the statue symbolizing protection for our country 
                     from human trafficking, drugs and disease. A heavenly door is added to represent our 
                     legal immigration system. 

                                                                                                                                                           


                     3. The Bald Eagle is the National Symbol of the United States and is the image 
                      I will be altering. The olive branch is replaced by the marijuana leaf and the arrows 
                      are replaced with crack pipes.The red stripes denote hardiness and valor but are 
                      now infected with hypodermic needles. This illustration portrays our country's 
                      drug epidemic.

     My most recently read book was written by one of my favorite authors, Dean Koontz. The book is titled The Crooked Staircase . While on vacation traveling at the airport I purchased this book and not because of the cover design. The large capital letters of the author's name caught my attention and I purchased the book. Now I have an opportunity to redesign a disappointing cover that I felt did not give this novel its due justice.        This book is part of a series so I understand why they would want to have the main character displayed.  I drew my sketches trying to incorporate that, and the telling of the story as well. My 7th sketch is what I will go with. M4 CP - Book Cover Design [Part 2] The Crooked Staircase by Dean Koontz

          Here is my finalized full book jacket re-design of Dean Koontz's book,  The Crooked Staircase.            I went with my seventh sketch design. I used a photograph of a staircase along the book's front cover and spine. With smart filters added, such as sharpening and noise,  I was able to create the ominous effect I was looking for. The author's name is in capital letters, with a white Thonburi font that is also used throughout the book cover. The title is shown here walking down the steps which completes the front cover design. I used the drop shadow effects for all typography on the front cover.  The spine includes the title, author and publisher's logo.
