M5 CP- Photo Retouching [Part 1]

Image
This is a an old 1950's photograph of my mother and her cousin in Greece. I will attempt to restore it by using advanced digital manipulation techniques. I will attempt to sharpen the image and not sure if I will add color or not. The end result will be something that will enhance the picture from that era.

M4 CP - Book Cover Design [Part 2] The Crooked Staircase by Dean Koontz

Image
Here is my finalized full book jacket re-design of Dean Koontz's book,  The Crooked Staircase.            I went with my seventh sketch design. I used a photograph of a staircase along the book's front cover and spine. With smart filters added, such as sharpening and noise,  I was able to create the ominous effect I was looking for. The author's name is in capital letters, with a white Thonburi font that is also used throughout the book cover. The title is shown here walking down the steps which completes the front cover design. I used the drop shadow effects for all typography on the front cover.  The spine includes the title, author and publisher's logo. On the rear cover, I applied the Figure/Ground Gestalt Principle.  Using my own photograph I was able to create the silhouette from my photo with blending options, color burn at 73 percent opacity, a blend cli...

M4 CP - Book Cover Design [Part 1] The Crooked Staircase by Dean Koontz

Image
My most recently read book was written by one of my favorite authors, Dean Koontz. The book is titled The Crooked Staircase . While on vacation traveling at the airport I purchased this book and not because of the cover design. The large capital letters of the author's name caught my attention and I purchased the book. Now I have an opportunity to redesign a disappointing cover that I felt did not give this novel its due justice.        This book is part of a series so I understand why they would want to have the main character displayed.  I drew my sketches trying to incorporate that, and the telling of the story as well. My 7th sketch is what I will go with. On the front cover, for brand recognition, I will keep the author's name in capital letters, as it appears on all of his novels, with a white Thonburi font that will be utilized throughout the book cover design. The picture of a crooked staircase created with smar...

M3 CP - Awareness Poster [Part 2] STOP THE BULLYING

Image
Above is another version of my STOP THE BULLYING poster.         I chose my awareness poster,  Stop the Bullying,  to help all children subjected to bullying .  At first, I created a poster to have a child’s face pictured but then I decided to develop another poster using an eye instead. The eye can represent any person that is a victim of bullying and that is what made my decision. I wanted this poster to not only help victims of bullying but to raise awareness so that anyone who is a bystander can speak up and help. Whether bullying is occurring in school or online there are others that know what is going on.    The many tears victims shed due to the abusive language that they are subjected to on a daily basis is symbolized here with the eye tearing into a pool of tears. I utilized hurtful words that bullies use and made them a part of the pool with color, warp text and rotation. I wanted the word...
